Mr. David Amodo was born in Kodiak, Alaska and raised in both Kodiak and the Village of Akhiok. His parents are the late David Eluska Jr. and Melinda Amodo-Wood. From an early age, David was taught how to fish and to hunt in order to provide food for his family. He graduated from Kodiak High School in 2015, after which he began working at Monk’s Rock Café and Bookstore, serving in many diverse managerial and leadership roles until 2021. In the Summer of 2021, David accepted a position as a Bear Guide on the south side of Kodiak Island at the Kodiak Brown Bear Center located on Karluk Lake.
Since David was in such close proximity to bears and developed working relationships with professional wildlife photographers, he decided to explore the world through photography, which began what would be a passion, in the good sense of the word, for capturing special moments through a lens. In the Summer of 2022, David and his family moved to Anchorage, and soon thereafter served as a photographer for many of the services and events held at Saint Innocent of Irkusk Russian Orthodox Cathedral.
This opened the way for his work now as the Communication Secretary for the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Sitka and Alaska, where David’s love of capturing beauty and love for the Holy Orthodox Church meet.
