"In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.' (Matthew 2:18) If the slaughter of the holy innocents was a day of lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, then the day that offers some protection to the innocent infants of our day is a day of rejoicing, celebration, and great cheer. The overturning of Roe versus Wade for our nation is just such a day. Since Apostolic times, abortion has been understood as equivalent to murder.
The Holy Orthodox Church that celebrates the conception of Christ at the Annunciation and the leaping of the Forerunner in his mother Elizabeth's womb has always been and will always be on the side of life, not death. All the faithful of the Orthodox Diocese of Sitka and Alaska are called to join in glorifying the All-Holy Trinity for this blessed reversal. For now,'rulers are," in the words of Saint Paul, "not a terror to good works, but to the evil.' (Romans 13:13). We also are called upon to support and assist expecting mothers in trying situations. Let us, therefore, also pray that the Most Pure Mother of God give these dear women the courage, the strength, and the compassion needed not only to bear their beloved children, but also to prepare them for life in the everlasting Kingdom of God."
